Our councillors don't just work hard at election time, they commit time on a daily basis to improve their wards and to address the issues and concerns raised by residents.
Since the May elections, Local Conservative Councillors have hit the ground running - meeting with residents, raising issues and completing regular ward walks to identify new issues in their wards.
Cllr Brown was re-elected at May's elections to represent the Meir Park & Catchems Corner ward for the next four years. And just like previous years, Cllr Brown has been relentless in working to address issues raised by local residents. Here's an update on some of Abi's recent work across the ward....
Signage Replaced
After a short break following the recent local elections, Abi was out in the ward to check up on previously reported issues and she was pleased to see a few recently reported jobs around Meir Park have now been actioned.
The missing middle panel in the bus shelter at the bottom of Lysander Road has been repaired after Abi reported it had come out. Also, the missing ‘Hawksdale Close’ sign has finally been re-installed.
Fighting to keep Meir Park Surgery Open!
"Thank you to everyone who has responded to the recent consultation on the Meir Park & Weston Coyney surgery. I’ve been advised that over 650 responses have been received, the vast majority in support of retaining this much needed community facility.
Both myself and Jack Brereton MP have written in support also. We know how much residents value having a local surgery - and the impact closing it would have right across the wider area."
This is a far higher response rate than the ICB were expecting, but reflects the local strength of feeling. The decision will be made in the next weeks.
Lysander Road Football Pitches - Parking.
"Thank you to residents who shared photos of poor parking this weekend - I have passed them onto Leisure Services who’ll remind teams to park responsibly."
Dropped Kerbs Across Meir Park.
"Last summer, I was successful in securing several dropped kerbs in Meir Park following requests from residents.
Since then, I’ve received a number of other requests to ensure those using mobility scooters and wheelchairs or with pushchairs are able to safely cross roads on the estate.
As you can imagine, there’s a number of requests right across the city for this work, and they have to be taken in order, however hopefully we’ll see work underway soon."
ASB at Doris Robinson Court.
"Thank you to residents who have alerted me to anti social behaviour at Doris Robinson Court yesterday afternoon and evening. I have made the city council aware. Please do continue to report any incidents to Staffordshire Police on 101.
As residents will know, Doris Robinson Court has been empty for some time, however a planning application for demolition was recently submitted. A decision has not yet been made on this, however as there are bats and nesting birds around the site, any work (if agreed) will not take place until September.
I have also made enquiries around work on the hedges that back onto Meir Park - I have been advised that work is being commissioned to carry this out, but I have not been given details of timescales yet. Again, I would assume this would need to take place once the nesting session is over.
As ever, I’ll do my best to keep residents updated!"
Happy Oatcake Day!
"We get ours from Broadway Oatcakes - I wouldn’t say we’re regulars, but they wave at Mr Brown when we run past!!
I like mine with cheese and onion, or cheese, egg and mushrooms (vegetarians can eat oatcakes too…!). What’s your favourite filling??"
Cllr Abi Brown said:
"I love being out and about in my ward, identifying issues and meeting residents across Meir Park & Catchems Corner to discuss the issues and concerns they have about our area. If residents have any issues or concerns they'd like to discuss me, I'd encourage them to contact me. And if residents see me out and about on a ward walk please do come and say hello!"
