Stoke-on-Trent South MP Jack Brereton and Hanford, Newstead & Trentham Councillor Rachel Kelsall recently welcomed South African star bowler Imran Tahir to Wedgwood Cricket Club.
Imran Tahir moved from Pakistan to South Africa via the UK and in the process, he has played for more than 25 teams, including four English counties, three South African franchises and an IPL team while carving a reputation as one of the best limited-overs' legspinners of his time.
Jack Brereton MP said "It's great that our local team has been able to attract a player of such high quality like Imran. Having international players at clubs like Wedgwood will help attract the next generation of star cricketers and broaden the appeal of community cricket clubs."
Ward Councillor Rachel Kelsall added "Imran is a fantastic addition to our local team. As a supporter of the cricket club, particularly around increasing the number of children and women taking part in outdoor activities, I'm delighted that a player of Imran's calibre has been added and look forward to seeing the benefits this will have for the young people who work alongside such an experienced international player."
