Cllr, Dr Chandra Kanneganti has been selected at a meeting of local members as their next candidate who will fight the next general election for the Conservatives in Stoke-on-Trent Central.
Chandra will fight to retain the seat which was won by Conservative Jo Gideon at the 2019 election, which is held with a slender majority of 670.
Chandra will replace Jo Gideon MP at the next election. Jo announced earlier this year that she would be standing down at the next General Election. Jo has vowed to continue to work hard for residents living in Stoke-on-Trent Central until the election takes place.
Jo Gideon MP said:
“Congratulations to Chandra. He will be an excellent Conservative candidate. Chandra was a well-loved lord mayor and is a trustee of the Harper Lee Foundation. Both as a local GP and a local councillor, Chandra has already looked after the community for years.”
Following his selection as candidate, Chandra said:
“I feel honoured that the Conservative Party members have selected me. It is a very proud moment to get a chance to represent the great city of Stoke-on-Trent. I look forward to speaking to residents across Stoke-on-Trent Central about the issues that matter to them."
